Discovering I AM: The Soham Sushumna Technique
Early on our path, Kalyn and I were given a powerful process based on the breath and moving energy up and down the spine, significantly impacting her ability to connect with other dimensions and unseen friends. After we married, I would walk into the bedroom at least once a day and see her sitting cross-legged on the bed, diligently practicing this technique.
We gave it the nickname the Shushumna technique. The Sushumna is a vital energy channel in the human body that holds significant importance in various forms of yoga, such as Tantra, Kriya, and Kundalini. It is located along the spine, running from the base to the crown of the head, and passes through all seven chakras.
Running energy along the Sushumna channel is believed to facilitate the rising of Kundalini energy, leading to spiritual awakening and liberation. However, it is also a fantastic way to move deeper into I AM, your Divinity.
If you haven't already, you may want to reference my article on Medium:
The article describes how Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj became Self-Realized in only three years by Self-Remembering I AM. It emphasizes the importance of connecting with the Divinity within, I AM.
India's ancient spiritual texts contain passages expressing the concept of I AM, such as the phrase Soham. The Soham mantra is an ancient practice that involves using the breath. It has been described in the Vedas and Bhagavad Gita, dating to around 500 years before Christ.
In this issue, I will be describing a version of the Shushumna process using the Soham mantra you can use to connect with I AM.
Here is the process:
Preparation: Sit in a comfortable meditation posture, ensuring the spine is erect. Adjust the body for balance and stillness.
Breath Awareness: Focus on slow, rhythmic breathing, moving awareness along the spine from the root chakra at the base of the spine to the crown chakra at the top of your head and back.
Visualization of The Sushumna: Visualize the Sushumna as a luminous tube within the spinal cord. Intensify awareness of this pathway.
Breathing Inside The Sushumna: Resume deep breathing, feeling the breath moving inside the Sushumna. Maintain awareness of this movement.
Awareness of Prana: Become aware of the prana (vital energy) moving with the breath in the spinal passage, experienced as light, heat, or energy sensations.
Piercing the Chakras: Visualize the chakras as points of light within the Sushumna and feel the prana piercing each chakra in turn as the breath moves.
Awareness of Soham: Focus on the sound of the breath, experiencing the Soham mantra. Silently say So to yourself on the in-breath and Ham on the out-breath. Continue the Soham (I AM) mantra with the breath for 20 minutes.
Ending the Practice: Gradually withdraw awareness from the mantra and become aware of the natural breath, physical body, and surroundings. Spend a few minutes mindfully aware of your energy.
Enjoy these processes. The more you do the processes, the more quickly you sense I AM's presence. It is not uncommon to have increased intuition, enhanced dreams, and/or out-of-body experiences when tapping into I AM.

Can You Create Your Destiny? Don’t Gurus?
Kalyn Raphael
If They Can, You Can!
My daughter is 18 and now it’s time she begins to choose her path in life.
Time for her to act as if life is going to yield to her and help her live her dreams.
Destiny: Accidental Or Essential?
Osho talks about two ways of living, the “accidental” and the “essential.”
The Accidental Path
Most people don’t think about, plan or intend to create their lives. They may wish and hope for things, try to make a career or a relationship work, but whether it does or not is ‘accidental.’ They have no true creative power.
The Essential Path
Others do plan. In Osho’s words, they “trust,” which he says is not like a belief, but rather is an absence of doubt. I would say that the essential way of living is an intentful one. When we know ourselves and we know what is significant to us, we tend to connect with our passions more so. At that point, we have a deeper connection to ourselves and to our lives.
We also have knowingness. “Trust” is a fair word, but if you trust with no doubt, this is knowing. We know there is more and we are connected to it, so we can surrender.
Aligned to this knowing, we can also be intentful in our lives.
Intent: The Creative Human Power
Intent is an amazing power. The online definion of intent online includes a plan, purpose, design, state of mind and mental attitude. Yes!
Parents Tend To Be Intentful
Parenting can provide a great example of this. You have a clear purpose with your child, a plan for them and your design and mindset for them are steadfast. You want to them to grow up to be happy and successful. Every step of the way you know what decisions to make for them, generally speaking.
More than trusting yourself, you know what your child can be and you know you want to help them get there — no doubt.
Choose Your Destiny
Is destiny available to you?
Yes and no.
No:
After all, if you live in an accidental way, then the blowing wind will determine what crosses your path and what you experience.
On the other hand, we don’t get to control life. We can certainly influence our lives and make choices for ourselves every step of the way but ultimately we have to surrender to the tide.
Yes:
The universe IS and, should the sun not come up tomorrow, we’d be in trouble. However, the universe can, and does, support some people. There are people who seem to have it all and for whom (it seems) it all comes right to them!
The universe is supporting them.
Can You Get The Universe To Support You?
Yes; undoubtedly!
It’s simple to, although it may not be easy.
Again, it’s time for my 18 year-old daughter to start her essential path. Not because the sun will rise tomorrow if she beckons it, no one can. But because the universe sees and values, metaphorically and literally, people who know themselves and know how to dance with the universe.
This is a dance of love, appreciation and adoration.
It is knowing who and what you are as a creator or a divine being. It is knowing what you love about life, how you and life relate and create together.
It is an essential love.
It’s about being passionate, genuinely passionate, and living this.
It’s time for my daughter to own knowing herself to the degree she can: knowing her strengths and weaknesses, her joys as well as the joy of chopping wood and carrying water.
When you have an appreciation of life, the good and the bad, and you have affinities and enchantments, then you develop a way of relating in life that may look as simple as chopping wood, as they used to do to keep warm at night, and carrying water for their homes. These were traditional chores that were meant to be appreciated because they provided heat and water.
Destiny At Work
If you think life is hard, challenging and a punishment, you’re destined to experience that.
If you realize that life is grand ball and you know your favorite dance, musical piece or meal at the ball, and you plan to live your best self, then you are destined to have the universe’s next dance.
“The Universe Manifests Who You Are Not What You Want”
This is one of my favorite quotes from my teachers. We all have wants and needs; some of us get some things, some seem to get nothing and some seem to get everything.
The universe is not judging us, but rather is honoring who we are. At the core of your every thought, feeling, action and activated energy you are either honoring yourself or your ego. Simply put, you are either honoring who and what you are — strengthening your weaknesses, celebrating your strengths and pursuing your passion — or you are struggling with your ego.
No, it’s not that authentic people are struggle-free, but rather that they know that, as they dance, the solution will come or the problem will resolve itself.
On the other hand, the accidental way of struggle is riddled with thoughts, beliefs and preconceptions, often conditioned into us when we were young — and these limit us. They keep us from living our best life and clearly communicating with and knowing ourselves.
That accidental, struggle-filled path takes us in inauthentic directions. The uncertainty that comes from living life from the outside, from struggle, is disconnecting. We can’t find how we genuinely feel; connecting with our true dreams and desires are is difficult — or impossible.
We can’t know who we are — and the universe manifests our uncertainty. After all, the universe manifests who we are, not what we want.
A Deeper Connection
Listen to yourself.
Few people take the time to listen more deeply. Taking the time to meditate, ruminate with your heart will take you a long ways.
Question your ideas, your values.
Meditate and get into the flow*.
Question everything until you know why you are the way you are at a deeper level; you will come to understand the disingenuous aspects to release in yourself. You and discover the authentic spark within to embrace.
Then choose.
Based on your desires, your passions, start to know yourself in those strengths and those brilliant versions of yourself. Choose to be this version of yourself.
As you raise yor frequency, you will naturally start to make choices in your heart, in your way of thinking, in your energy, and actions that will catalyze this version of you.
You will become more intentful in your life and in what you want to experience and create in life.
And you will. Create, be and choose your destiny.
Because the universe honors who you are and when you know yourself, there is no doubt.

Thank you for this process! Do you visualize the energy going back down the shushumna to the root as you exhale?
Hi Pamela,
Thanks for asking. Yes, it can be helpful to follow the energy back down to your root. You can also send your energy down into the earth's core and bring the energy up. The earth energy is very healing.
Enjoy the process!
